I participated in the book tour for Gild a few months ago and also posted a review. I will admit that I wasn't that blown away by Gild - I thought the plot was intriguing but I really struggled to relate to any of the characters. Auren was too cowering for me, and Midas was just a slimy worm from the get go. When I was offered a place on the Glint tour I did have to consider it, but decided that I was interested enough in the story to read the next book, and I am so glad I did!

This series has some quite graphic sexual scenes, including one involving rape towards the end of book one. I'll be honest, before Gild I'd never read any books with this sort of content, and it did make me feel uncomfortable at first. In this world, women are given no respect and referred to as 'saddles', there to be ridden. As uncomfortable as it may have been to read, it is a sad truth that this is actually the reality for women in the world even today, and made me feel very grateful for the rights I have over the use of my own body.

Glint actually had surprisingly little sexual content and instead focuses on the development of the main character Auren. Auren experienced a lot of trauma as a child, and naturally she clung onto the one man who has ever looked after her, never questioning his judgement. In Glint, she finally starts learning that she has a choice in what she does, and is becoming the female lead needed to throw off Midas' oppression.

Also, we finally had the introduction of Rip and I am in love! Despite the vicious rumours that follow him around, he is surprisingly gentle and actually treats women with the respect that they deserve. There was a twist at the end of the book, which I will admit I'd kind of guessed, that has left me desperate to start book three!
